Wow!! What an amazing weekend of dance was had on the 4th - 5th September! Stunning performances, awesome workshops, photos with celebrities, great competitions and.. we broke a world record!
There were so many highlights of the weekend for us as organisers. The biggest one was watching ALMOST 500 people sing and dance to Jason Coleman's Hairspray routine at 8.30am on Saturday morning. Despite the rain, we had a good show and we were convinced that we had broken the world record. Unfortunately we fell short by around 50 dancers. We made another attempt on Saturday evening, and this time, we smashed the record with 726 people singing and dancing to "Welcome to the 60s"! - only bummer was not being able to get the song out of my head for about 2 weeks after! We're still in the process of editing the footage from this, so stay tuned, we will be loading up on to our YouTube Channel soon!
Jason Coleman and his team leading the dancers through his choreography in the morning! Another major highlight were the workshops! All the workshop rooms were packed with scores of enthusiastic young dancers eager to learn from icons in the dance industry: Kelley Abbey, Jason Coleman, Sarah Boulter, Debby Ellis, Christine Denny, Nathan Wright...the list goes on and on. It was so fantastic to walk into every workshop room and watch amazing instructors teaching so many dancers from all over Australia and New Zealand.
The celebrity booth was another major highlight. So much fun to have everyone taking photos with their favourite celebrities from So You Think You Can Dance, and Dance Academy. All of these booth photos have been uploaded on to our Facebook page, and you can view them by clicking here.
Ofcourse, the shows were very special as well. Amazing performances from Talia Fowler & Jake Robinson, 4 times world tango champions Cristina & Daniel, A-live Entertainment, Brent Street, UDC, LA Talent...the list goes on and on and on. If you missed out on the shows, or just want to watch them again, you can view all of them in high definition on our YouTube Channel! Photos from the performances (also above) can also be viewed at jcphotography.com.au
There are so many people who worked tirelessly and gave their support in order to make the Clean & Clear Australian Dance Festival possible. Our sponsors: Clean & Clear, Razzamatazz, Innovative Production Services, and our supporters: Dance Around the World and Critical Hype. Special thanks to Jason Coleman for giving of his time, energy and celebrity so generously. Thanks to our publicist Anna Rizzo who got us such fantastic coverage leading up to the event and also to Dancelife, Dance Train, Dance Ed and DanceInforma for supporting us. And most importantly, a huge thank you the host of instructors, celebrities, performers, staff, volunteers, parents, dancers, teachers, exhibitors etc. who all made such a huge effort to be a part of the event.
We are already planning ahead for the 2011 Australian Dance Festival and we can promise that it will be even bigger and better than 2010! Dates and venue will be announced in the coming months, and it won't be on Father's day next year!
