The Sydney Salsa Congress is proud to bring to Australia for the very first time,  Tito  Puente Junior -  the son of legendary mambo musician Tito Puente.

Puente, Jr. carries on his father's legacy by presenting, in his performances and recordings, much of his father's repertoire.  Tito Puente Jr. carries his father with him - imprinted on his physical being and locked in his soul. It's in his looks, his joy, his music. No doubt, every time Tito Jr. walks on stage - he walks in his father's footsteps.

Tito Jr. is on a passionate mission. The younger Puente is determined to nurture the musical legacy left by his father. He refuses to let it become a distant memory; "He was just too vibrant, too exciting. There was magic in the music my father made. It made people happy, all over the world. My goal is to keep it alive, and in doing so, expose it to a whole new generation."

Over the past two years, Tito Jr. has found captive audiences who echo his passion. Crowds once lured to a venue by the father's magic have returned to enjoy the son -- participating once again in the high voltage celebration that takes place on stage.

Tito Jr. reveres the magnificent, lasting impact his father had on our musical lives. Audiences the world over agree there is nothing so perfect, pure or passionate than a tribute to a father from his son. "People who don't know anything about Latin music know my father and people always, always smile when they say his name," he confides. That is a very special gift, and it inspires and motivates me to bring his music to the world."

Tito Puente Jnr will perform live in concert at the after-party of the Sydney Salsa Congress on Sunday 30th Jan, 2011.  Concerts are also being organised in Adelaide and Canberra.  Stay tuned for the dates...

Team Selections for the 2011 Sydney Salsa Congress

We all know that performing at the Sydney Salsa Congress is one of the biggest thrills that a Latin Dancer can have.  Our professional staging, lighting and sound (provided by Innovative Production Services), as well as the arena seating of the Sports Centre in Homebush has given the Sydney Salsa Congress a reputation for being of the best in the world.  So, will your school be represented at the Sydney Salsa Congress?

Salsa at the Australian Dance Festival!
Sept 4th - 5th @ Sydney Town Hall

The 2nd Annual Australian Dance Festival is set to rock Sydney Town Hall AND Sydney Square on Sept 4th and 5th.  As the organisers of the Australian Dance Festival, Marcia and Angela also want to show the rest of the dance industry what Street Latin is all about!  Here's how we're doing it!

1)  Salsa Party @ Sydney Square

When:  Saturday 4th September 12 noon - 2pm

Where:  Outdoors in Sydney Square (located between Sydney Town Hall & St Andrews Cathedral)

Cost:  FREE, just pay for parking, $8 for the entire day with a voucher from the Australian Dance Festival

Why you'd want to come:
We have salsa dancers coming from all over Australia and you know how they love to dance with Sydney Salseras and Salseros.  Come and strut your stuff at Sydney Square!  It's a great chance to show people how much fun Salsa can be!  And if you're worried about scuffing your shoes, we will be putting down a vinyl dancefloor so you'll be able to spin without any worries.

If you can come down to Sydney Square at 7.30am on Saturday, then you can also help us with with our fundriaer for Youth Off The Streets!  We'll be setting a world record for the largest number of dancers doing a Hairspray choreography led by Jason Coleman.  It's going to be so much fun!  Click here for more information.

2)  Workshops by our top Latin Dance instructors, Jaime& Lil Liz,  Luda & Csaba and Kadu & Larissa
To showcase the Latin Dance industry, we've scheduled workshops with Jaime & Lil Liz, Luda & Csaba and Kadu & Larissa.  We are so proud to be able to put such outstanding instructors in the Australian Dance Festival line up!  To see when they will be teaching, check out the Australian Dance Festival workshop timetable

For Tango lovers, if you want to be immersed in workshops with the 4 times world Argentine Tango Champions, Daniel Naccuchio & Cristina Sosa (pictured left), then please click here for more information.

3) Latin Party on Sunday (5th Sept) inside Town Hall
The last night of the Australian Dance Festival will go off with a big Latin bang!  From 7pm - 9pm you will be able to watch a mix of shows including 4 times world tango Champions, Daniel Nacucchio & Cristina Sosa.  From 9pm - 12midnight, party the night away to Salsa, Zouk and Bachata.  There will also be performances from Latin Dance Australia, Modus Vivendi, Melbourne Latin Dance, Kokoloco, IUAC, Salsa Connection and more to be announced.  Tickets are $40 prepaid, or $45 at the door. Entry price also includes entry to the Expo area during the day where you can shop with Morena Dancewear, Naughty Girl and a whole lot of other exciting dance retailers. For more information, please go to the Australian Dance Festival website.

First 100 Early Bird Passes Almost Sold Out!

If you wanted to get an early bird pass to the Sydney Salsa Congress, then you've still got a chance.  We've got 18 full passes left at the special price of $320.  If you hurry, you may be one of the lucky ones to get this price before they go up to $360! That's a saving of $40!

Hotel sales are also starting to crank up, and historically, we have always found that the 5 star Pullman, and 4.5 star Novotel always sell out first.  To secure the room that you want,  make sure you book soon!  We've put a lot of pressure on the hotels to keep the same rates in 2011 as we had for 2010, so you won't get these special rates anywhere else but via the Sydney Salsa Congress website!
